Favorite Books from 2024

Reading Recap

In 2024 I read 106 books—just one short of my 107 books from 2023! However, since my goal was 60, I’m more than happy with my final number.

In the middle of the year I gave birth to our second child, so I wasn’t sure what my reading would look like or if I would even have time to read! This is the first year that I really started getting into ebooks. Admittedly, I am a book snob and have always turned up my nose at ebooks; after all, nothing beats the way a real book feels in your hands! But with so many late night nursing sessions, I took advantage of my library’s Hoopla and Libby apps, as well as Kindle, to replace scrolling on social media. I’ve got to say: I’m hooked! While nothing will ever replace a real book, the convenience of an ebook can’t be beat. I especially appreciated this option when reading a lot of fiction purely for entertainment and perusing nonfiction that I wanted to review but I would never purchase.

This year, I also read more fiction than I usually do; about 64 out of 106 of my books were fiction. Sometimes I get weary of books that contain practical content or knowledge; they are good, of course, but I need a steady diet of fiction to help my brain relax! I am picky with fiction. I don’t want to waste my time reading it if it’s going to be poorly written, cheesy, full of language or sexual content. This year I discovered several new authors that I’ll continue to follow. It’s always nice to have more options to read!

Top Ten Books of 2024

As you can imagine, with over 100 books completed it is difficult to narrow the list down to my favorites. In fact, in the list below I had to include some series. Keep reading to learn about my reading goals for 2025, and to find links to short reviews of every book I read in 2024!

Reading Goals for 2025

Since I’ve read over 100 books in each of the last two years, I’ve decided that my reading plans should reflect that in 2025, so my new goal is 100 books. My TBR list on Goodreads has been slowly growing again so I hope to read a number of the books on that list.

Here’s some that are on my stack to complete in 2025:

  • Scripture’s Story edited by Jared August

  • The Inklings by Humphrey Carpenter

  • The Art of Neighboring by Jay Pathak

  • Midnight on the Scottish Shore by Sarah Sundin

  • The Prince of Savoy by D.J. Speckhals

  • Caught Up in a Story by Sarah Clarkson

  • Persuasion by Jane Austen

In addition, I plan to re-read the Chronicles of Narnia again this winter, and I’d like to revisit L.M. Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables series; I haven’t read it since I was a girl! What suggestions would you give me to read this year?
