2027 Reading Recap: Quarter 3
This has been my slowest quarter of reading in several years; I’m afraid that I only averaged one book a week (12 total) for the summer months. I do have reasonable excuses; moving, ministry, and morning sickness. ;) For the first time this year, I’m two books behind in my progress towards my 2026 reading goal (88/120 books). However, I’m happy to report that I’m feeling a big more settled and with the cozy fall weather, I’m sure to pick up the pace for the last quarter of the year!
Nonfiction
What You Should Know About Inerrancy by Charles Ryrie
A helpful handbook and guide to a beginners study in inerrancy! I appreciated his high view of Scripture, and he makes a convincing case for inerrancy and total trustworthiness of the Bible.
Fiction
For a Lifetime (Timeless, #3) by Gabrielle Meyer
I could not put this one down! The witch trial storyline was disturbing, but the author handled it so well. There were several twists and turns that I did not see coming.
Across the Ages (Timeless, #4) Gabrielle Meyer
Loved this installment of the timeless series! I was surprised by this, but I actually loved the pirate timeline! The book also had a strong message of redemption, which was beautiful. I’m looking forward to the next book!
The Monogram Murders by Sophie Hannah
This is a new mystery series, revisiting famous Agatha Christie hero Poirot. I was hesitant, as this wasn’t written by Christie and Poirot is one of my favorite literary characters. But this novel still captured his unique character, and I actually found the writing to be a bit smoother than Christie. The mystery itself was a bit confusing to follow and I’m still not sure how it was fully wrapped up, but it was interesting and held my attention.
To Love a Lady (Dollar Princess, #1) by Gabrielle Meyer
I don’t know the My Fair Lady tale so I can’t speak for how well it worked here, but I loved the ending. 3/5 stars.
To Dance with a Duke (Dollar Princess, #2) by Gabrielle Meyer
Enjoyed this a big more than the first in the series. The events of the finale seemed too far fetched for me—there was enough mystery and intrigue in the story without adding another aspect of danger. The seven brides for seven brothers was a cute theme and it was fun to see how Meyers integrated that throughout.
The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion by Beth Brower AUDIOBOOK (Vol. 1, 2, &3)
Yes, this is my second time through the Emma M. Lion series this year (and 3rd time total). What of it? :) I needed something to get me back into reading, and decided to take a stab at the audiobooks as I’ve heard so many good things about them. I’m happy to report that they are wonderful, and I’ve caught a different side to this series by simply listening instead of speed reading through. Since some of the audiobooks can be longer, and I also need to wait for them to be available on Libby, I’ll be working through this series at a slower pace than normal. But this should set me up well for Volume 9, which is finally announced to be released in February of 2027!

I’ve loved revisiting the Anne books this fall! I don’t believe that I’ve picked up this series since I was a preteen, so it was comforting to find the books just as good and enjoyable as I remembered them to be. I also appreciate how Anne’s engagement isn’t the “main ending point” to the books; the books are a look at her entire life, and it’s so beautiful!
